APB and ACCC
The Bureau has a first class working relationship with the ACCC, providing significant "protection" for publishers. In 2005, the Bureau launched its fifth joint venture booklet with the Commission. The APB is recognised by the Commission as the representative industry association for newspaper and magazine publishers on all advertising and related matters. The ACCC refers to the Bureau as a model of industry co-operation.
Because of the cooperative association with the ACCC, and the nature of advice given to members on a wide range of advertising issues, the Bureau has achieved a high profile and is uniquely placed to support publishers´ commercial activities, including the development of good advertising practices with their clients.
On a joint venture basis with the ACCC, the APB has produced five booklets on different aspects of the Trade Practices Act. These are "ADVERTISEMENTS: Minimising the risks for publishers", "Misleading Job and Business Opportunity Ads, how to handle them. A manual for classified advertising staff", "Fair Treatment? Guide to the Trade Practices Act for the advertising or promotion of medical and health services" and "Advertising and selling". A major updated version of the acclaimed "Misleading Job and Business Opportunity Ads" booklet was launched jointly by the ACCC and APB in Melbourne on Friday, 25 November 2005.
The Bureau believes that the services it offers are important to the ongoing development, reputation and success of members. It also believes that member´ support enhances the strength of the Bureau, and therefore of the whole industry, in dealing with governments and those who seek further regulation of advertising.
