Work and Achievements

  • The Bureau´s services are available to publishers and their staff 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week and advice concerning specific advertisements referred to the Bureau is normally provided the same day.
  • No advertisement referred to the Bureau for advice, and subsequently published as recommended by the Bureau, has ever been subject to the threat of legal action.
  • On issues of concern to the ACCC, which either directly or indirectly involve publishers, the Commission chooses to work with the APB on their resolution basis, rather than dealing with publishers individually.
  • The Bureau was instrumental in gaining media participation in the current Therapeutic Goods Advertising Code system and represented Australian media on the Interim Advertising Council, working towards the harmonisation of the Australian and New Zealand therapeutic goods regulatory arrangements.
  • The Bureau, uniquely amongst media, is a full member of the Therapeutic Goods Advertising Code Council.
  • The Bureau provides industry submissions, where advertising restrictions or prohibitions are being considered by governments or their agencies.
  • The Bureau, because of its knowledge of regulatory issues and changes, is uniquely placed to "protect" publishers, as well as advising them on revenue opportunities.
  • The Bureau encourages presentations, "tailor made" to individual publisher/publication requirements. It aims to do these, at least once annually, at all major outlets.
